Research performed by Google discovered that it was not just who was on the team that mattered, but how they worked together that eventually led to their success (or failure). In the most successful teams, the leaders and members truly listened to one another, had open discussions, and showed empathy. The term ‘psychological safety’ was referenced to mean that folks on the team felt comfortable to speak their minds, and even to make mistakes, knowing that others on the team would support them if they fell. Other important areas of successful team culture included that team members could depend on each other to complete work, they understood their role and how the team was structured, they found meaning in the work being done, and they saw how their work impacted the end result.

Team-building Workshops
The following workshops are off-the-shelf offerings of Org Empathy Consulting that are targeted towards new or intact teams, whether in the same reporting chain or cross-functional. These workshops are already developed, but can be tailored to your specific needs.
Communication Styles & Skills Workshop
Length: 90 minutes
Format: In person or virtual, facilitator-led workshop
Recommended Capacity: 4 - 20 individuals
Outcomes:
Identify and document personal communication style and preferences
Enhance active listening skills and awareness of teammates’ styles and preference, enabling trust within the team
Team Mission & Values Through Collage
Length: 180 minutes
Format: In person or virtual, facilitator-led brainstorming workshop
Recommended Capacity: 4 - 20 individuals
Outcomes:
Spark creativity and visual expression in collaboration with teammates
Identify and document team mission and values to move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and unity
Building Team Norms Workshop
Length: 240 minutes (recommended as two, 2 hour sessions)
Format: In person or virtual, facilitator-led brainstorming workshop
Recommended Capacity: 4 - 20 individuals
Outcomes:
Collaborative identification of both effective strategies and areas of strain within the current working processes of the team
Collective brainstorm for new working norms that encourage openness and accountability
Documentation of new working norms for the team moving forward to enhance team functioning and impact
